89 BLUE FLAGS IN HALKIDIKI IN 2018!
For another year, Halkidiki has won the first place in Greece with 89 blue flags, as announced by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature, which is the national manager of the International Blue Flag Program. Blue Flag has been awarded since 1987 to beaches and marinas that meet stringent prize conditions. In order for a coast to be awarded with a blue flag a necessary condition is that the quality of the water is “exceptional” and that 33 of other criteria of the program are respected. The program was launched in France in 1985 and its international manager is the Environmental Education Foundation, which is in close co-operation with the local authorities constantly. The blue flags reflect the guarantee of the high quality services offered on the coasts and marinas, as well as environmental protection, so every year, all major travel agencies abroad pay particular attention to them when choosing the destinations of their customers.
