NEW HOTEL GROUP WITH LUXURY RESORTS IN GREECE
A new Hotel Group that will provide high quality tourism product in Greece is created by the cooperation of Oaktree Capital Management and Group Sani SA. The Oaktree Capital Management is an American investment fund, which manages pension funds in the U.S. and Canada and invests where there is a prospect. It currently manages approximately $ 80 billion .
The agreement between the Greek Hotel Group and U.S. investment fund has been signed last month . “It's a very important message . The fund investment of Oaktree is a very positive sign and a vote of confidence in the Greek tourism. It shows that the country is moving forward”, says the group's Sani SA president, Mr. Stavros Andreadis, stressing that “it is very prestigious for us that Sani SA has been chosen to be the partner of Oaktree in Greece”.
The name of the group, while not yet finalized, is expected to be “Oceania Club”. The seaside resort in New Moudania of Halkidiki, property of Sani SA, is the first hotel of the new group. “The "Oceania Club" will be the base of the product. The concept will be based on this”, says Mr. Andreadis, referring to the hotel which operates this year under the model “ultra all inclusive”. On the other hand, Sani Resort, the flagship of the group Sani, remains unchanged, out of the group.
The Oaktree retains the majority stake, while Sani also holds a share. The cooperation is based on the expertise of the Greek hotel group in the operation of lux resorts and Oaktree capabilities to support high scale investments.
The purpose of the chain is to create a portfolio of luxury hotels -resorts throughout the Greek territory, which addressed both the Greek and international market. Contacts are made and discussions on existing units, starting in Halkidiki, but also in other parts of the country. According to reports, Gerakina Beach, which belongs to the National Bank of Greece and has already come out in two tenders that declared rough, is one of the objectives of the new scheme. “It is not a short-term investment in Greece”, says Mr. Andreadis, adding that about next year another unit will operate under the umbrella of the new group.
The hotel product that will be formed is “high end” and aimed at very high incomes. “It's a model that began in the Caribbean and will enhance the potential of Greek tourism with five-star hotels”, explains Mr. Andreadis . “Customers come, prepay a package, but also buy many other things during their stay, as they want to know they have a base, but their expenses remain high”.
