POLIGIROS’ CARNIVAL 2014
Since the early '50s, the carnival has always presented an opportunity for revelry and fun for the residents of Poligiros. The local bagpipes, drums, violins and clarinets, that came from other neighboring villages, accompanied with their sounds the carnival groups in their dances in Poligiros’ cafes, streets and neighborhoods. In some neighborhoods, more than their dances, some people created strange, unique structures representing simple situations from everyday life, sometimes satirizing it and sometimes to revive old customs.
This year, the fun, color, imagination and participation are the key components of the municipality of Poligiros carnival. The events which begin on Pancake Day, February 20th. For twelve days the capital of Halkidiki will dance to the rhythm of carnival, attracting thousands of visitors. This year’s evets are inspired by history, tradition and modern life and will be full of dances, concerts, costumes, feasting and revelry until the early morning hours, reaching the peak the dismounted soldier parade.
