Tourist inflows 2019
Every year, hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to Greece for their summer and non holidays in order to explore and discover its innumerable beauties. 2019 was another such year for our country, with results showing a gradual increase in tourism section.
The travel surplus in January-September is approximately fourteen millions, according to official, however probationary data from the National Bank of Greece. In addition, there was a 10% increase in average spending per trip as well as a 25.8% increase in travel payments. An obvious example of this figure is the passenger traffic on September 2019, which is up 5% from the corresponding month of 2018. More specifically, 5.111 thousands of travelers came to Greek land only in September, with most of them resorting to road travel which increased 19.6% while a 1.5% drop in air travel inflow.
It is still worth considering the countries of tourists choosing Greece as their destination. According to figures in 2019, there has been a noticeable decline in travelers from Germany in contrast to France, the United Kingdom, the US and Russia whose countries have increased their preference and arrival in Greece. In conclusion, Greek tourism experts confirm that in the upcoming months as well as next year, there will be an increase in travel from non-EU-28 countries and EU-28 non-euro area countries while EU-28 countries within the euro area will continue to decline their trips to Greece.
