TRAVELLING IN SITHONIA
If the first leg, Kassandra, beats on fun and cosmopolitan organized beaches, the second one, Sithonia, does not need anything like that: Its strong asset is Nature. Pinewoods reach the blue sea and every creek hides behind the next one, each one more cute than the previous, more magical. The charm of isolation, quaint fishing villages and nuggets cosmopolitanism and frantic fun till the morning, at the doses needed, makes you a little discriminatory: Deep inside you know well which peninsula of Halkidiki would you choose to spend the summer.
First stop, Nikiti, a traditional village with charming houses, wooden balconies and lush streets. Do not forget to buy honey - is the pride of the locals, as Nikiti is said to be the oldest “bee – village” of Europe.
On the east coast, Vourvourou overlooks Athos peninsula across, while the lush, pine throwing pine needles reaches the crystal clear waters of the bays and the “secret” water shelters, such as the erstwhile pirate bay “Kriftos” and nine islands across, Diaporos, guarantee many hours of summer discoveries .
From Ormos Panagias you can organize excursions to Mount Athos - if you have previously requested permission - while further east, on the road to Sarti you will meet many organized campings for a return to nature, including one of the best in Greece, Armenistis. At the edge of the leg you will explore one of the largest natural harbors in Europe, Porto Koufo, which bursts through the foliage and gives opportunities for extreme unreal sunsets.
On the western coast of Sithonia stands cosmopolitan Neos Marmaras, surrounded by sandy beaches, and has the busiest bars in the area, Molos, and the most sought after beach bar, Kohi in luxurious complex of Porto Carras. Do not miss a visit to the picturesque, traditional village of Parthenon, just outside New Marmara.
